Welcoming Spring 2015

Happy spring friends! Apologies for my prolonged silence, but I have been super busy these past few weeks with events, workshops, and pretty much a busy life of being a mother of three (with spring sports having begun). I have to admit, things are crazy (in a good way) this year and I find myself struggling to keep it all balanced. I have gathered some of my favorite images from the past few weeks to share with you. Spring is here indeed - as evidenced in these arrangements.

Prelude to Spring

Happy February friends. Spring is coming! I know I have been way MIA lately - life has been super busy leaving me with little time for blogging. But, at last here I am to share with you a slice of what I have been working on for the past few months! I made a video combining the two things I love: flowers and music.

Music is an ever-present source of inspiration in my life; it affects me in a way that nothing else does. About a year ago, while I had Wagner’s Tannhäuser Overture blasting, I knew I had my inspiration.

To me, there is something deep, grand, and fantastical about Wagner’s music. I wanted to create a brief artistic moment, as grand and worthy of that piece as I could with flowers. So started months of planning, work, and imagination. This is the result, and I hope you enjoy watching it as much as I enjoyed creating it!

Here are some behind-the-scenes images that NRUPhoto graciously captured on the day of our shoot.

Wagner is so grand that I wanted to create an equally grand and intricate arrangement. The magnolia branches really helped with lending that extra touch!

To me, Wagner's music has a very unique fairytale quality - so I wanted to design an arrangement whereby one would imagine that setting, mysterious and sort of out of this world, while still maintaining my tendencies for bright and colorful designs.

It was a lot of fun (and work) shooting the last scene, as we wanted the flowers falling evenly and abundantly behind me!

The Magic of Spring

Spring is here and the possibilities are infinite!! Rhododendron is really at its best this time of year - so lush and beautiful. When I saw this particular shade at the flower mart I picked it up right away. I wanted to make a really happy arrangement that would brighten any space, so I mixed it with some peonies, ranunculus, and columbine from my garden. This lovely combination makes for a true spring garden arrangement.

Flowers: pepper, peony, rhododendron, ranunculus, veronica, columbine

Columbine is one of my favorites - such a delicate and beautiful garden gem. Kiana Underwood / tulipina.com | Photography: N.R. Underwood / nruphoto.com
