Bright Thanksgiving Centerpiece

When I think of Thanksgiving, a fireplace seems to be the perfect scene. Even in Northern California, it is usually reasonably chilly at Thanksgiving, so that fire really hits the spot. When I put together this arrangement, I wanted to use a color palette a bit outside the typical realm of Thanksgiving colors. I think that while you can still see autumn in this arrangement, it also has a more colorful element that you would not generally expect to see on a "traditional" Thanksgiving table. The lighter pinks, especially, lend a soft and happy quality to this piece.

I feel that the leaves on persimmon trees are just the perfect shade right now - a light brown with hints of pink and yellow which compliment the vessel and assist in creating a color combo around it. The peonies and the ranunculus are just a reinforcement of those autumn-dusted leaves of the persimmon tree.

I believe that it is always fun to try something new and step outside the traditional look once in a while - what about you?

Weekly Inspiration: Mother's Day Recap

Happy Wednesday! It's been a while since I have done a midweek post! On Wednesdays, I have decided to share some pictures of the work I have done over the previous weekend, or just a simple snap from something cool for a weekly dose of inspiration. Today I am sharing a recap of my Mother's Day weekend. I had a a very busy weekend. In addition to some of the custom arrangements I made for a number of moms, I had a pop up shop at Craftsman and Wolves in San Francisco. It was a bit of work, but also a lot of fun.

This is one of the custom arrangements I made with plum branch, garden rose, tulip, ranunculus, poppy, cilantro blossom, vibernum, orchid, and kumquat. It was not only a hit with the receiver, but my Instagram community LOVED it too! Kiana Underwood / tulipina.com | Photography: N.R. Underwood / nruphoto.com

Sample arrangements I made for our Mother's Day pop up shop. We had two arrangements for sale, one in a bucket, and one in a beaker. The beakers were definitely a hit (and my favorite too)!

Valentine's Day Beauties

As an event designer, I don't do a ton of arrangements that are "holiday based". However, Valentine's Day provides an opportunity to introduce a new audience to my floral styling, and I love being able to work outside the box of traditional red rose designs that you might see from a retail florist. For those that request something, I simply give them a price, and then put together something that I think will look great. The following are a selection of a few that I put together for V-day. I wish you all a wonderful day, and hope that you get to do exactly what you love, today and always!
