Early Autumn Arrangements

I don't often do single arrangements, but I won't lie, when a lovely gentleman calls you, and asks for a "spectacular" arrangement for his wife on their anniversary, it is hard to say no! So, here is my version of spectacular. With autumn it is so easy to create "knock your socks off" arrangements because the colors and textures available are simply beyond amazing!! As a designer, I am truly in heaven in autumn.

This is a little something I put together just for me to enjoy. One of the great things about visiting the flower mart is that I usually have leftovers for myself, and I always take advantage of it and put together a few little things for around the house. Garden Inspired Party

A couple of weeks ago Victoria of sfgirlbybay asked me to do the floral arrangements for her party with Women & Whiskies. We chatted about the colors and and the overall theme of her party and here is what I came up with. Victoria loved every single one of the arrangements and they looked beautiful in her lovely home; the party was so much fun and we learned a lot more about whiskey than thought possible! One of the benefits of having an "in-house" photographer extraordinare is that NRUPhoto takes amazing pictures of my work before they make it to the events!

The palette I chose - based on the party's theme - was colorful and vintage style.

Flowers: garden rose, ranunculus, nerrine lily, hellebore, tuberose, sweet pea, anemone, queen anne's lace, zinnia, pepper, lime, snowberry Garden Inspired Party / Kiana Underwood / tulipina.com | Photography: Nathan Underwood / nruphoto.com

Best of: August

Late summer in California brings about some of the best local garden rose selection at the Flower Mart, as well as in my garden. I have really been enjoying working with roses this past month. Here are some of my favorites from the single arrangement work that I did in August. Not really an arrangement, but just a photo of the roses because it was too gorgeous not to! On a weekend with dinner guests, I decided to fill my mixer with flowers and garden trimmings. It was a hit! Kiana Underwood / tulipina.com | Photography: Nathan Underwood / nruphoto.com

One of my most favorite floral combinations: gardenia, hellebore, snowberry, rose (from my garden) and basil. Kiana Underwood / tulipina.com | Photography: Nathan Underwood / nruphoto.com

This was for someone who likes yellow roses. As a garden-style designer, it's hard when someone wants 2 dozen yellow roses, and a traditional approach just wouldn't suit me! Kiana Underwood / tulipina.com

Nruphoto takes the BART to work every day, and I give him a ride to and from the station. One day when I went to pick him up I saw him walking down the stairs with the raddest vintage suitcase - as if he was living sometime in the 50's going on a trip! He had purchased the camera on the right and it came in the suitcase. I'd say that's a major bonus! Kiana Underwood / tulipina.com

I wish you all a happy and flower-filled weekend!
