Colors of Colina: Mint + Peach

Mint and peach - I just love this color combination. As you might have read in my first Colors of Colina entry, I tell Colina the overall color theme of the bouquet that I'm going to make, and she wears something complementary. I quite like how lovely this color pairing turned out - soft and beautiful. There is simply so much room to let your imagination and creativity explode when you choose color as the theme for your project. The possibilities are almost endless, and you can find a unique element to incorporate every time. For me, the unique element(s) of this bouquet are many, but if I had to pick just one it would be the dates. I love the yellow color tone and I think it ties together the whole bouquet in conjunction with Colina's mint-colored dress.

When I make a bouquet I want to "wow" people with it, so I always strive to use unique combinations of flowers and foliage that I think stand out from the "everyday" bouquet.

This knit-covered pole was such an awesome surprise, and it matched Colina's dress perfectly - whoever made that colorful cover was quite retro and we thank them! Colors of Colina: Mint + Peach / Kiana Underwood / tulipina.com | Photography: Nathan Underwood / nruphoto.com

Ohio Amish Country

One of the highlights of our summer road trip was driving through Amish country in Ohio. We visited a part of northern Ohio with a large population of both Amish and Mennonites. To be honest, aside from the fact that they choose to live a very simple life, I really didn't know much about the Amish. However, after my recent visit, I have to admit that I am in awe of these people. I absolutely loved everything that I saw, from the beautifully manicured lawns and gardens, the perfectly organized clothes hanging to dry in the sun, their amazing produce and farmers markets, to their outfits and the awesome beards (my husband was jealous). It was all a breath of fresh air, and far away from the usual pretentiousness that life in a major city tends to cultivate.

The beauty in the countryside was overwhelming, so I simply took pictures everywhere I went. They absolutely love flowers - flowers everywhere...so I think that the Amish and I would be good friends, if only for the love that we share for flowers.

It's not ber-LIN (like the German city), it's BUR-lin! Kiana Underwood / tulipina.com

To me, there is something very special about people who choose this as their ride and mode of transportation as opposed to cars. Here is a great example of an Amish buggy. For the first couple of hours, my kids were looking for Volkswagen Bugs every time we said "buggy"...until we did some explaining! Kiana Underwood / tulipina.com

The produce (and pies) were amazing. All fruits and vegetables were about 1/3 of the price I am used to in San Francisco. Kiana Underwood / tulipina.com

Humans with Bouquets: Will

As some of you know, I was recently in London. I would be lying if I told you I wasn't super excited about this particular feature today! Everything about this shoot was an amazing experience - from the moment I asked Will Taylor to be one of my humans, to the day I visited the New Covent Garden Market to buy flowers, through to the day that I photographed him on the bank of the Thames in beautiful London. For those of you who aren't familiar with Will, you soon will be, as his book Bright Bazaar: Embracing Color for Make-You-Smile Style is about to be released (April 29 in the US) and it is going to explode your mind. He is also a freelance designer, and the founder and editor of the wonderful interior design and color blog Bright.Bazaar. If you haven't guessed it yet, and couldn't tell from these photos, Will is all about color.

If you'd like to meet Will, he is going to be in Los Angeles and New York for book signings in May. Please check his blog for details!

In my opinion (and clearly many others), Will's taste and style are immaculate, but what has endeared him to me most is the kind, humble, and wonderful person that he is. It is a pleasure to have you on my blog Will - thank you for participiating in my series and for a great day in London. You certainly have brought color and happiness to Humans with Bouquets!

Can you tell Will is a natural at this? I didn't have to tell him how to pose at all - all I did was snap away - and, of course, wound up with lots of favorite photos to share! Styling and photography by Kiana Underwood / tulipina.com
