Dahlias on Display

Happy Friday friends! It is dahlia season and I find myself using them wherever I possibly can, do you blame me? Look at these lovelies!!

Cafe au lait dahlias are simply delicious looking - their color and texture is really lovely in my opinion. So, I decided to use them with these fun chestnut and persimmon branches with one really bright purple dahlia from my garden.

Flowers: dahlia, chestnut, persimmon Kiana Underwood / tulipina.com

Begin by placing the chestnut. As I have previously mentioned, beware those spikes - they hurt! Kiana Underwood / tulipina.com

Continue with the cafe au lait dahlias and carefully place them so that they don't get bruised by the chestnut. Kiana Underwood / tulipina.com

Place the persimmon as a hanging element to the arrangement, and add that one dahlia as a highlight! Kiana Underwood / tulipina.com

I look forward to a fun, but busy weekend. I hope that yours will be fabulous!

Unique Vessels: Wooden Terrarium

Pottery Barn was kind enough to send me this wonderful little wooden terrarium, and I thought that it would look lovely with a selection of white vases and brightly colored flowers. One might usually put some potted green plants or herbs in a terrarium, but I wanted to put together something that would work well both open and closed, and that would catch the eye with color even from the corner of a large room.

Unique Vessels: Floral Cases

I sure am glad it is Monday! I had a very busy wedding weekend, so although Mondays aren't usually my favorite, today I am looking forward to a little rest (as much as three kids will allow) before the next event. I saw these lovely cases online at Anthropologie and thought "how fun would they be?" as unique vessels. They are bright and cute and look wonderfully festive with flowers in them. These could be used for almost any occasion, from a dinner party to a baby or bridal shower, or even as props for an eclectic photo booth. Most of all, they are super easy to put together - just pick your favorite flowers and go.

To be able to add water, I lined each case with a plastic insert first, then arranged my flowers in them. Kiana Underwood / tulipina.com

Chestnuts look like this before they become what we are used to seeing. I warn you though, do not be fooled by their fluffy look - they are prickly and if you get poked they sure hurt - so wear gloves while handling them!!! Kiana Underwood / tulipina.com

Saponarias (soapwort) are fun voluminous little flowers that have a lovely wildflower look. Kiana Underwood / tulipina.com

And finally, cafe au lait dahlias are one of my favorites, so I don't miss an opportunity to use them when in season! Kiana Underwood / tulipina.com
