One of my favorite places at the San Francisco Flower Mart is Torchio Nursery. Started in 1985 by Darrell Torchio, it is one of the best spots inside the Mart. It was natural that I would ask Darrell's son Dustin - who I see and work with all of the time - to be one of my humans. So, a couple of weeks ago NRU and I went to the flower mart and took some fun shots of Dustin at work. It was a blast going to the flower mart at a regular hour of the morning (not at the crack of dawn like I usually do), and for the sole purpose of photographing Dustin, and without getting caught in the hustle and bustle of work. You see, when your job is floral design and your obsession is to put unique florals arrangements together, the people who supply the flowers become so important in your life. I mean, where would I be if I didn't have people like Dustin finding and stashing the flowers that I want away in their fridge? Not only do I get what I want, but it is brought to me in the best condition and with a welcoming and awesome smile to top it off!
Thank you Torchio Nursery - and a special thank you to Dustin for being a very cool human!
This shot is what I'd like to call the "James Dean" pose!
This cool chair just lives out in the alley right behind Torchio where all the flowers are recieved and sorted. To be honest, I had never been out back before.
Flowers: poppy, ranunculus, geranium, tulip, rose, pieris
Check out all of the buckets...there were a lot more near where Dustin was standing. I should also add that there was a lot of teasing going on by the rest of the Torchio crew, but Dustin took it all like a champ!
And lastly, Dustin and Darrell!
