Designing with Houseplants

Have you ever considered making a centerpiece with just what you have in your planters or from your house plants? Well, I did just that a little while ago. I hadn't gone to the flower mart and I did not want to go to the grocery store. So, I took a look around my house and I decided to use some house plants combined with pansies from the planter we have on our deck, and here is what I came up with. What do you think? These begonias were inside a pretty pot in our breakfast room, the lemon thyme I had purchased from our local garden center to plant inside our herb box in the back yard, and the pansies usually live on our balcony. I think it is simply amazing what you can come up with using just a few greens and flowers.

Begin with the begonia - they actually do quite well as cut flowers in a vase and their leaves are so pretty and shiny that they make a perfect arrangement addition. Kiana Underwood / tulipina.com | Photography: N.R. Underwood / nruphoto.com

Continue by adding the thyme and pansies until your vase looks full. Kiana Underwood / tulipina.com | Photography: N.R. Underwood / nruphoto.com

As a very last touch, I added a few stems of the house plant greens. I was amazed at how long this arrangement lasted! Kiana Underwood / tulipina.com | Photography: N.R. Underwood / nruphoto.com
